Description: 

    For this project we used the methods in which van Gogh used but with our own unique spin. We started by having one blank black or white piece of construction paper and several pieces of tissue paper of various colors. We ripped the tissue paper into strips to glue onto the construction paper. After the stripes dried, we added a silhouette of our choice with black construction paper. Next, we took a white pastel crayon to create movement in the sky (tissue paper) and to add detail to our silhouette.

Extension:

    An extension idea I have in mind would be more of a discussion and research project on mental health. Since van Gogh struggled himself with mental health, as a class we could discuss ways in which to seek help and express ourselves through art, literature, and other activities to help with the emotions we feel internally. This would be great to teach students to not bottle up emotions but rather express them because who knows, maybe they too can become works of art.
