Pastel Helping Hands

Description:

In this activity, we had to trace our hands and color one with warm colors and the other with cool colors. We used pastel crayons to color our hands in order to blend the colors nicely. Once we finished our hands, we cut them out and pasted them on a black sheet of paper. Next, we picked from a selection of words; unity, kindness, peace, hope. I choose "peace". Once we decided on a word we wanted, we were instructed to grab the first letter of our word from the front table. With the letter, we scratched out a design. We then wrote the rest of the word on a white sheet of scrap paper. Then on another sheet of scrap paper we wrote three things of what "Peace" means to us. You could get deep with it or funny, I chose a little bit of both.

Extension:

An extension for this activity would be to talk about how we can spread more peace, kindness, unity, or any of the other words the teacher may want the students to express. Then as a class, create a goal ladder on how to spread more of our selected word(s) in the world.
